William Laird, LMSW

Get to Know William

William Laird graduated with his Master’s degree in Social Work from the Advanced Standing Program at Louisiana State University in 2022, and currently holds an LMSW in the state of Louisiana.  Drawing from a diverse and broad array of educational, career, and life experiences, William uses elements of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Desensitization, and psychodynamic approaches to support individuals and families while emphasizing a collaborative person-centered, strengths-based approach to change.
William has worked with clients of all ages, including children and families involved in the child welfare system, as well as people struggling with severe mental illness.  In addition, William has supported families whose loved ones were diagnosed with a terminal illness, walking with clients through ambiguous or disenfranchised grief. He currently works with adults who may be experiencing grief, relationship or communication challenges, anxiety, or substance use disorders.
Prioritizing the therapeutic alliance between therapist and client, William emphasizes an empathetic approach to each therapy session to foster an environment that invites the vulnerability and honesty that can be difficult in the midst of distress.
“Being in session is a collaborative partnership, a relationship between therapist and client that is predicated upon safety and trust.  It is an environment that is free of judgement that encourages the most sincere expression of thoughts and feelings. I believe that therapy can be transformative and lasting, and that everyone, no matter their circumstances, has the capacity to transform their life and put insight into action.  Therapy identifies and highlights the traits that are already present in people that are necessary to achieve desired change.  People already have the qualities they need to enact those changes, and therapy assists by providing the tools to use those qualities to become healthy and whole.”
William practices meditation and writes as a form of self-care.  William is also a musician, and has played all through New Orleans and the southern United States.
William is available to see individuals and couples in person or via tele-health in Louisiana.
